The Assessment is an integral part of education that
makes it possible for the both the teachers and the
students to test the skills acquired and appraise
themselves of the progress made. At Jiva, we employ
innovative, out-of-the-box methods to determine the
specific aptitude of a child and consequently use the
results to hone his individual personality. Assessment,
thus, has twin goals at JPS—to evaluate the growth of
the child and to find ways of perfecting the child’s
educational needs. There are three aspects to assessment
at Jiva:
1. Skill Chart
A skill chart that identifies qualities of honesty
leadership, motivation, punctuality, speaking,
listening, writing, homework, cleanliness, etc. Students
receive marks on these skills, which are further added
to their percentage.
2. Multiple Intelligence Test
At JPS, we conduct Multiple Intelligences Test (MIT) to
identify the true nature of a child. Our brain has eight
different types of intelligences—Linguistic, Logical,
Visual, Musical, Bodily, Naturalistic, Interpersonal and
Intrapersonal. MIT helps us figure out the particular
intelligence he/she is good at. Also, to be successful
as a learner, all the intelligences need to be engaged
and coordinated properly.
3. Projects
Students are also assessed on a variety of
interdisciplinary projects that they perform during the
school tenure. Students work on these projects either
individually or in groups. Teachers test them on a
number of academic and interpersonal skills which
provide the students an overall knowledge about the
topic.
4. Examinations
Apart from regular class tests and unit tests,
examinations are conducted twice a year—half yearly and
final exams. An average of 40% is required for promotion
to the next class. It is compulsory for the students to
pass all the subjects to be promoted to the next class.
Besides this, at least 75% attendance in the Academic
year is required.
5. Vata Pitta Kapha Test
This is an innovative use of an ancient technique to
analyse the body type of children and subsequently
advise them on the type of food most suited to their
body. According to Ayurveda, the five elements (fire,
earth, water, air & space) in their biological form
combine to form three basic energies in the body. These
three basic energies are the primary life forces or
biological humors, called doshas in Ayurveda which
primarily determine the constitution of a person.
6. Career Counselling
We believe that each child is unique with his own set of
innate talents and that the true aim of education is to
recognise and perfect such skills. Just as there are
multiple natures, there are subjective career natures
too. Hence, career counselling plays a significant role
in shaping the future of a child. At Jiva, we realise
this fact and offer timely advice to pave a brighter
future for each child.
